The location of this hike was actually a last minute decision... I wasn't even aware that one of the cast from the show had recently passed away. I remember watching this a few times growing up so it was kind of a cool visit. This trail is fairly popular, we arrived quite early and there were still a good amount of people out. It was a good thing we went when we did because by the time we left the parking lot was packed and so was the trail.
The hike was faily easy, the scenery quite beautiful, and even though it started out very chilly it wasn't too bad as we began moving around. When we arrived, it was probably in the low 40's, pretty cold for us sensitive californains. But what was cool was that we saw a group of deer feeding right next to the parking lot (didn't get a picture, unfortunately). As we were hiking, we were passed by many trail veterans, including a group of older gentlemen who we later caught up with at the M.A.S.H. site. I overheard them talking about the cast member who passed away: RIP Trapper John, aka Wayne Rogers, I suppose that sort of added to the nostalgia of the visit.
